......what camera or scanner I use for my art?!?!? I mean, every time it posts my camera/scanner information at the bottom right, it gets it right EVERY TIME! It's freaky! :fear:

Sure, sure, there's probably a logical explanation for how a website can tell what electronics I use AT HOME, but since I don't understand electronics well enough or know how to learn about it online, I'll stick to it being FREAKY.

This had me curious, so I went and looked at the code for a picture from my camera (that I had edited in Photoshop). This is what I found.

That was interesting, so I went to an image I had scanned.

So yeah, the information for scanners and cameras are embedded in the file. Also, though information for Photoshop is in the file deviantArt doesn't seem to use it. Any images that I saved from Photoshop (not over the original file) lost their camera and scanner tags.

Ah, see? This is the sort of thing I was thinking about. Never will I understand codes like that!

I'm pretty sure they get that data somehow from the file itself when you upload it. Not sure how though, but I'm sure it's possible to do so. :)

Yeah, I was thinking it did something of that sort, but I just can't imagine how! This is when a nerd would come in handy. :D

Ah coolio! ^^ I dunno, I'm just a very technical person, and if I don't understand exactly how something works, I make my head hurt until I can understand it or give up.

So I'm not the only one who's wondered this?

Lol I just keep thinking about what possible characteristics in the picture there could be to determine what specific camera or scanner was used. It just seems too...impossible?
